The “Bushbox XL Premium Set” in detail
Bushbox XL
The Bushbox XL is our largest stove and is perfect for longer outdoor trips, camping, trekking tours, bushcraft adventures, bikers, expeditions, and much more.
With this exceptionally efficient, portable folding stove, you can easily boil water, prepare food, grill meat, and much more for several people with very little fuel.
Equipped with our unique hinge technology, which ensures that the hinges never get stuck, the Bushbox XL is easy to set up and fold back down, even with gloves on or with cold, numb hands.
With the Bushbox XL, you are completely independent, as it is versatile and easy to use. It can be fueled with natural solid fuels (twigs, branches, leaves, charcoal, animal dung) and is also suitable for spirit burners (e.g., Trangia), Esbit tablets, gel stoves, etc.
With its small pack size (folded it is only about 1 cm thick), this ingenious hobo stove can be stowed away anywhere.
The Bushbox XL is thought out down to the smallest detail and offers you many options for individual use. You can read more about it here.
Technical data
Weight: 765 g
Dimensions: 19 x 12.5 x 1 cm (folded), 19 x 12.5 x 12.5 cm (set up)
Material: 100% stainless steel (1 mm material thickness, 1.4301)
Made in Germany
How our stoves work:
Our Bushboxes work according to the chimney principle
Air flows into the stove from below, causing even damp material to burn and generating intense heat, which, due to the stove’s design, is directed straight upwards and radiates very little to the sides. This makes the Bushbox a clean, compact, and safe cooking station compared to a campfire, which also works in line with the “Leave No Trace” principle.
Pot Support Set Bushbox XL
The pot supports are attached to the back of your Bushbox XL. This way, they are always securely stored and will not get lost on the go.
Inserted into the top of the Bushbox XL, they provide a secure base even for smaller cups and cooking vessels.
Using various notches, the pot supports can be inserted into different positions as needed and ensure sufficient airflow between the flame and the cookware.
With the help of the pot supports, you can place an external heat source (e.g., Trangia) at any height within the Bushbox XL.
Alternatively, the pot supports can be used as handles to transport or move the hot stove. In combination with the separately available universal grate, they can also be repurposed, for example, as a toast holder or a warming device for a coffee mug. There are no limits to your creativity.

Universal Grate Bushbox XL
The universal grate is highly versatile
Placed on top of the Bushbox XL, it serves as a grill or a solid base for smaller pots and cups.
Inserted in a special position halfway up, it forms the perfect base for using spirit burners (e.g., Trangia).
Furthermore, this grate is also ideal in the middle position for using wood pellets or charcoal (lower fuel consumption with a more effective and constant cooking or grilling temperature over a long period; one cup of pellets is enough for approx. 30 minutes of operating time).

Weight: 77 g

Leather Pouch Bushbox XL
The handmade pouch is made of high-quality, firm, vegetable-tanned cowhide. Sturdy stitching ensures maximum durability.
The leather pouch offers enough space to safely stow the stove and matching accessories such as pot supports and the universal grate. Our separately available multifunctional insert also fits inside.
Using the loops (6 cm) on the back and the additional D-ring, the leather pouch can be carried on a carabiner or attached to a waistband, belt, or backpack. This ensures that the stove and accessories are always within reach.

Notes on Hobo fueling
Soot/Smoke: Soot formation always means: lack of oxygen and combustion temperatures that are too low. When fueled correctly, no significant soot can form in a Bushbox XL or Bushbox LF. Soot and smoke are always signs of improper fueling.
Chimney effect: The basic principle of a hobo stove is the chimney effect; our stoves are also built so that the Coanda effect can better take effect. Both physical effects require that the air supply is ensured so that an airflow is created that supplies oxygen, which on one hand reaches very high temperatures (up to 800 degrees) and at the same time (and this is the most important point) dissipates the heat upwards through the airflow, reaching the pot almost entirely instead of radiating out the sides.
Optimal operation: A hobo is operated optimally when there is comparatively little fuel in the combustion chamber. The wood then burns very hot, the heat is only partially transferred to the outer walls, smoke and soot cannot form (if soot does form, it burns off without leaving a residue), and almost no warping occurs because there is no localized heating of the side walls. When the hobo is fueled optimally, there is almost no residue or ash, only a tiny pile of very light, almost white ash.
You should also take care to avoid “yo-yo heating” (constantly changing temperatures) and extreme temperature differences (quenching in cold water).
However, in many of the videos shared on the internet, the boxes are stuffed to the brim, and you sometimes see meter-high flames shooting out of the hobo. This, however, leads to the following problems: The chimney effect is severely restricted, the combustion temperature drops to around 200-300 degrees, and smoke and soot are produced. Burning material touches the side walls in many places, which leads to strongly uneven heating of the side walls and at the same time to the transfer of a lot of energy to the side walls. Heat islands or a strong temperature gradient between the top and bottom are created, which allows another physical effect to develop optimally: warping.
Improper use: Many misunderstandings also arise because some of our customers use the stoves as mobile campfires and expose them to hours of yo-yo heating and occasional overheating. While our stoves must prove that they can withstand such treatment and still be foldable or remain fully functional afterwards, no ordinary steel can withstand this permanently without damage (just as little as quenching in cold water).
Warping: Warping is a physical phenomenon that is unavoidable when metal is heated unevenly (and therefore expands unevenly). Slight warping is therefore inevitable and normal. However, all our hobos are constructed in such a way that, with proper use, warping only occurs to a very moderate extent and the function of the hobo is in no way impaired.
