All about Bushcraft - Bushbox XXL+ Set Stainless Steel
Better, lighter, foldable – the new Bushbox XXL+ is here, with improved construction, reduced weight, and equipped with our unique hinges! As with all of our Bushbox outdoor stoves, you can cook and grill with this XXL-format Bushbox – even comfortably on a large scale for several people. Plus – and this is only possible with the Bushbox XXL+ – you can enjoy a crackling campfire, complete with "Bushbox TV," at any time. Folded flat again, the Bushbox XXL+ disappears into the included outdoor bag and can be stowed away to save space in your camper, van, bicycle, canoe, or even your backpack until your next adventure. Its robust construction and clever design are built to ensure you have unique outdoor experiences.
The Bushbox XXL+ is our largest Bushbox and is as suitable for long outdoor trips, camping, vanlife, and bushcraft adventures as it is for a micro-adventure right on your doorstep.
Equipped with our unique hinge technology, which ensures that the hinges never stick, the Bushbox XXL+ can be set up in just a few simple steps and folded back up just as easily.
With its slim pack size (folded approx. 1 cm thick), the Bushbox XXL+ can be stored anywhere to save space.
Like all our stoves, you can use the Bushbox XXL+ with various fuels depending on your needs. You can use locally available natural material, such as twigs or pinecones, as well as other natural, organic materials. Of course, you can also use charcoal or briquettes, or alternatively, a spirit burner. Due to its size, the Bushbox XXL+ also allows for the insertion of a larger gas cartridge and is ideally suited as a wind shield. The fuel hose can simply be inserted through the opening on the front of the Bushbox XXL+.
Easily supports even very large pots and pans when cooking for several people.
The Bushbox XXL+ utilizes the chimney effect, which not only makes it easy to get your fire burning, but also ensures that the Bushbox burns very hot and yet efficiently for a long time.
The integrated ash pan serves as a base protector and catches any fire residues.
The cross-fold design of the base plate and the back of the stove reduces physically induced warping, ensuring that the stove's functionality and mechanism are maintained at all times.
Note: Only a small amount of fuel is sufficient for cooking and grilling with the Bushbox XXL+, as it burns very efficiently. When using larger amounts of fuel or during prolonged use as a campfire, the Bushbox XXL+ generates very high temperatures due to its size. Use the Bushbox XXL+ only on non-flammable surfaces or in conjunction with a heat shield.

The pot supports can be used as handles for safely transporting or moving the hot stove.
Furthermore, you can use them to remove the universal grate from the hot stove by inserting the pot supports into the slots of the universal grate from above.

Notes on Hobo-style firing
Soot/Smoke: Soot formation always indicates a lack of oxygen and combustion temperatures that are too low. When fired correctly, no significant soot can form in a Bushbox XL or Bushbox LF. Soot and smoke are always signs of improper firing.
Chimney effect: The basic principle of a hobo stove is the chimney effect; our stoves are additionally built so that the Coanda effect can also take effect better. Both physical effects require the air supply to be guaranteed so that an airflow is created that supplies oxygen, which on one hand reaches very high temperatures (up to 800 degrees) and at the same time (this is the most important point) channels the heat upward via the airflow so that it reaches the pot almost completely, instead of radiating out the sides.
Optimal operation: A hobo stove is operated optimally when there is comparatively little fuel in the combustion chamber. The wood then burns very hot, the heat is only partially transferred to the outer walls, smoke and soot cannot form (if soot does form, it burns off without leaving residue), and virtually no warping occurs because there is no localized heating of the side walls. If the hobo has been fired optimally, there is also almost no residue or ash, just a tiny pile of very light, almost white ash.
Care should also be taken to avoid "yo-yo heating" (constantly changing temperatures) and extreme temperature differences (quenching in cold water).
In very many of the videos circulating on the internet, however, the boxes are stuffed to the brim, and you sometimes see flames a meter high shooting out of the hobo. But this leads to the following problems: The chimney effect is severely restricted, the combustion temperature drops to around 200–300 degrees, and smoke and soot are produced. Burning material touches the side walls in many places, which leads to strongly uneven heating of the side walls and at the same time to the transfer of a lot of energy to the side walls. Heat islands or a strong temperature gradient between the top and bottom are created, allowing another physical effect to develop optimally: warping.
Improper use: Many misunderstandings also arise because some of our customers use the stoves as a mobile campfire and expose them to hours of yo-yo heating and occasional overheating. While our stoves must prove that they can withstand such treatment and can still be folded and remain fully functional afterwards, no normal steel can withstand this permanently without damage (just as little as it can withstand quenching in cold water).
Warping: Warping is a physical phenomenon that is unavoidable when metal is heated unevenly (and therefore expands unevenly). Slight warping is therefore inevitable and considered normal. However, all our hobo stoves are designed in such a way that, with proper use, warping occurs only to a very moderate extent and does not impair the functionality of the hobo in any way.
