Specifications
Blade length: 10 cm
Material: stainless steel
Hardness: 55-57 HRC
Handle: glass-fiber reinforced polyamide
Safety ring: Virobloc
The stainless steel used for OPINEL blades is an optimized grade that guarantees both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade features excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before requiring resharpening. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel has the advantage of not requiring special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits when in contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.) for an extended period.
The knife handle is injected with glass-fiber reinforced polyamide, which guarantees high resistance to impacts, water, and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). A pealess signal whistle is integrated into the end of the handle. It works in all weather conditions, with a volume of 110 dB and a range of around 300 meters in the open.
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. It is featured on all folding knives from model No. 06 upwards. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
