The stainless steel of OPINEL blades is an optimized grade that guarantees both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade features excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramic before it needs to be resharpened. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel has the advantage of not requiring any special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits if it comes into contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.) over a long period of time.

The knife handle is injection-molded from glass fiber-reinforced polyamide, which guarantees high resistance to impacts, water, and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). A pea-less signal whistle is integrated into the end of the handle. It works in any weather, with a strength of 110 dB and a range of around 300 meters in open terrain.

The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. It is present on all folding knives from model N°06 onwards. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
