All about Outdoor Knife No. 8 (blue)
Suitable for the seaside or the mountains! Sailing, mountain sports, canyoning, caving, trekking, paragliding...
The Earth/Blue version will accompany you on your outdoor adventures.
The knife has a very durable blade that is 2.5 mm thick. It features a 3.5 cm long serrated section, which is very practical for cutting natural or synthetic ropes. It also includes a shackle opener for shackles from 4 to 10 mm. The handle is resistant to water and extreme temperatures, and it is also equipped with a survival whistle that works in any weather.
A comprehensive and versatile tool.
Specifications
Blade length: 8.5 cm
Material: Steel
Hardness: 55-57 HRC
Handle: Fiberglass-reinforced polyamide
Safety ring: Virobloc
The stainless steel used for OPINEL blades is an optimized grade that guarantees both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade features excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before it needs to be resharpened. Stainless steel has the advantage of requiring no special maintenance under normal conditions of use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits if it remains in contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent...) for a prolonged period.
The knife handle is injection-molded from fiberglass-reinforced polyamide, which guarantees high resistance to impacts, water, and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). A pealess survival whistle is integrated into the end of the handle. It works in any weather, with a power of 110 dB and a range of about 300 meters in open areas.
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. It is present on all folding knives from model N°06 onwards. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
