About Peltonen Knives
Finland has a unique knife culture and strong traditions in knife making. Finnish knife manufacturers are rare, as the craft requires special manual skills and a deep understanding, especially in the handling of carbon steel. For over a decade, the blades of Peltonen Knives have been handcrafted by Finnish artisans in the workshop of Laurin Metalli, which was founded in 1918 in Kauhava.
A good knife must not only be safe and durable, but also easy to maintain and keep clean, as well as sit securely in the hand and have an ergonomic shape. Peltonen knives embody all these qualities, combining ergonomics, functionality, and, above all, safety. Our knives are among the best in the world because they are both durable and adaptable to different needs and purposes. They are carefully designed and manufactured based on real experience, being constantly refined and improved.
The Ranger Puukko is an authentic Finnish design, developed and tested by professionals.
The sheath is half of the knife
Great attention has been paid to the design of Peltonen knife sheaths. J-P Peltonen has designed them to be durable, versatile, and safe. The knife's leather sheath, made in the traditional Finnish style, represents genuine Nordic craftsmanship. Alternatively, composite plastic sheaths offer a more modern material that is lightweight and easy to maintain. A third material used is Kydex, which is equally durable, lightweight, and easy to maintain, and is available in various colors and camouflage patterns.
Coatings provide protection and facilitate maintenance
We manufacture Peltonen knives with coated and uncoated blades, each selected for different purposes. Coating options include PTFE Teflon and Cerakote. The Teflon coating requires minimal maintenance, is wear-resistant, and is food-safe. In contrast, the Cerakote coating offers excellent corrosion protection and allows for the use of colors. An uncoated blade represents a very traditional Finnish blade finish and requires the most care. A knife should always be maintained with the respect it deserves. Dry it well after use and oil the blade regularly. A carbon steel knife can be sharpened with a whetstone, for example.
Durable and secure handle with excellent grip
The handles of Peltonen Knives are the result of years of design work based on the actual needs and intended uses of the knife. The robust handle made of thermoplastic vulcanizate is manufactured using an injection molding process, with the tang of the blade running through the handle.
Peltonen knives are safe and sharp - at the same time
Originally designed for military purposes
Proven tool for all outdoor adventures
Functionality was the focus during development
10-year warranty
